BASF rocks the world… at least the world tunnel congress 2018!

A silver sponsor of the ITA-AITES World Tunnel Congress, BASF had a flood of visitors at its booth

As a global and regional leader in underground construction technologies, BASF was intimately involved in the original bid and the organization of the ITA-AITES World Tunnel Congress in Dubai, UAE.

BASF was a silver sponsor of the congress which served as a platform for sharing of the latest technologies and trends in tunneling worldwide. We presented two technical papers: one on Geopolymer Tunnel Coatings and another on Pre-excavation Grouting. The presentations were given by Frank Clement, Global Technical Manager for Waterproofing, and Vahid Shariati, Technical Sales Engineer UGC, and received with great interest and acclaim.

During the congress, our global construction specialists also launched new products and presented innovative solutions for waterproofing sprayed concrete, injection and TBM materials. The fire-resistant grease MasterRoc TSG 800 is a lower density tail sealant which enables customers to reduce consumption while improved packaging allows for easier recycling of drums.

MasterRoc SLF 50, a new generation soil conditioning agent, has been specially designed to improve performance through the control of the soil during tunneling operations under challenging soil conditions. This soil conditioner creates a highly stable foam with a superior half-life to maintain face pressure during operation and planned or unplanned stoppages. It can lessen power consumption through torque reduction, optimize soil extraction and can decrease wear to the cutterhead. MasterRoc SLF 50 was used successfully in Seattle on one of the world's largest diameter TBM.

Our booth attracted a diverse array of visitors including government officials, consultants, contractors and specialist applicators. Following the success of the Arabian Tunneling Conferences over the last 5 years, BASF offered a prize for the MasterSprayer, a shotcrete application competition using a spraying simulator whereby, visitors had the opportunity to prove their ability to spray concrete for tunnel rock support.

The simulator, designed by Edvirt, consists of the actual robot controller and a virtual reality headset with which the user can see the application in 3D.

The MasterSprayer contest proved to be both educational and entertaining, where daily winners were awarded prizes for their efforts and skill..

Staying connected with our industry partners energizes us! We look forward to the next Tunnel Congress in Italy in 2019. Till then, feel free to contact us anytime for your tunneling needs.
