Magor Brewery
Impact resistant Ucrete flooring
The background
The Magor Brewery in South Wales which opened in 1979 is the largest AB Inbev brewery in the UK producing over 2 million pints of beer per day.
In 1984, Magor installed 2,800 square metres of Ucrete in their Kegging Hall. The brewery has expanded mightily over the years, with many more Ucrete floors being installed, and now makes some of the world’s most popular beers, such as Stella Artois, Beck’s and Budweiser, but the original Kegging Hall floor is still in service today after more than 30 years.
The challenge
The Kegging Hall cleans and sterilises the returned kegs inside and out, fills and labels the barrels. Cleaning and filling up to 1000 kegs an hour. It is not uncommon for a keg, weighing 72 kg when full, to exit the line and impact on the floor.
The floor is continually impacted by detergent and sanitisers at temperatures up to 80 o C and over a pH range from 1 (acidic) to 13,8 (alkaline).
Resisting both the heavy impact without cracking or debonding as well as a wide range of chemicals requires a special kind of floor.
Our solution
A Ucrete flooring solution was the obvious choice given the demands of the environment for high temperature and impact resistance combined with resistance to a range of cleaning chemicals while providing a hygienic safe and attractive floor finish.
A 9 mm Ucrete flooring specification was chosen to give the required impact and temperature resistance. A light surface profile ensures safe footing even when the floor is wet.
Ucrete flooring is non-solvented and is non-tainting so does not affect the taste of food stuffs even during application. It has a Gold Indoor Air Comfort certifications from Eurofins demonstrating that it meets all European emission standards.
The customer’s benefit
- Through the temperature, chemical and mechanical resistance of Ucrete flooring a maintenance free long lived flooring solution has been achieved.
- The floor is still in service after more than 30 years.
- Light slip resistant profile offering the best compromise between ease of cleaning and safety underfoot.
- Ucrete is dense and impervious, with a minimum of joints, cleanable to the same standard as stainless steel. It conforms to IFS standards and is certified for use in facilities running HACCP food safety systems.
