New Technology Centre opened in Mumbai

30 August 2012 - In its efforts to further increase its strong customer orientation and develop innovative solutions for the construction industry, Construction Chemicals has opened a new Construction Technology Center in Mumbai, India, on 30 August. The center will support the development and testing of new applications for concrete admixtures, cement additives, waterproofing, flooring systems, precision grouts, concrete repair and protection products, among others.

In the presence of important regional customers as well as the management team of BASF India and EB employees, Thomas Kloster, Regional Business Segment Manager Asia Pacific, inaugurated the new facility. “The investment in the Mumbai technical center is part of our global strategy to focus on innovation and sustainability”, he said in his address at the opening ceremony. “The new center will support joint development with customers for new product applications and formulations, providing an excellent venue for enterprises in the sub-region to embrace world-class, cutting-edge technologies in partnership with BASF’s technical professionals.

Prasad Chandran, head of BASF India and South Asia, called the new technical center a milestone for Construction Chemicals. “The need for improvement in infrastructure, urbanization and industrialization will drive future growth of the construction industry in India”, he emphasized. “Our Construction Chemicals business is poised for further growth. The newly inaugurated Construction Technology Center will serve the increasing needs of development and technical services for the South Asia region by ensuring better collaboration with customers.”

Located in close proximity to the production site in Navi Mumbai and occupying an area of about 465 square meters, the newly constructed technical center is a state-of-the-art laboratory facility fully equipped for the development and testing of new products. The facility also incorporates a training center where the BASF team will hold courses on the applicability and testing of new products for contractors and applicators. “The center will enable us to get a deeper understanding of the building materials used across different parts of the sub-region, analyze the applicability of our cutting-edge technology in the Indian context, and leverage BASF’s global technical expertise to develop customized solutions that can help address future challenges faced by the construction industry”, Upen Patel, head of Construction Chemicals in India, said. “This, in turn, will help us improve our customer service.”

In India, Construction Chemicals operates production sites in Navi Mumbai, Mangalore, Nalagarh, Kolkata and Bangalore. With similar facilities in Japan, Australia, Singapore and China, EB’s new technical center in Mumbai is now the fifth in the Asia Pacific region.
