Sika and Deme Offshore ink contract for the Noirmoutier windfarm in France

Following the earlier successful collaboration on the project of Saint Nazaire OWF, DEME Offshore  and the grouting experts from former MBCC Group, now Sika, have signed an agreement on the supply of the grout material MasterFlow 9650 to the Noirmoutier offshore windfarm.

This highly specialized offshore grout will be used for the structural connections between the steel monopile foundations and the rock bed, the foundation will be anchored to. Furthermore, the grout will also be installed as skirt backfill between the transition piece and the monopile foundation.

Building upon the performance of MasterFlow 9650 in an earlier French project, we are happy to work once more with DEME on the installation of the foundations in the Noirmoutier OWF project. MasterFlow 9650 shall allow DEME a fast and reliable offshore construction of the monopile foundations", says Luc Westhof, Head of Offshore Sales Europe at MBCC Group, part of Sika since May 2023.

In addition, Guillaume Fallourd, Project Manager at DEME France, highlights: “Building upon our established partnership and the recent success of a similar XL grouted monopile project , we are confident Sika will once again prove to be the ideal partner for the Noirmoutier wind farm..

The first supply of the MasterFlow 9650 grout is planned for early 2024 and the installation of the foundations in the rock bed will commence soon thereafter. It is estimated that the supply and installation will continue throughout a full year.

The Noirmoutier offshore windfarm will be located in the Bay of Biscay, approximately 17 km off the French coast near Challans and Saint Nazaire. This windfarm will be constructed south of the neighboring offshore windfarm St. Nazaire that was earlier already constructed by DEME Offshore. 61 foundations, of the grouted monopile/transition piece type with bolted connections, will be installed in this windfarm that has a total capacity of 496 MW.
