    ​Top 5 Construction Systems Projects of 2020

    We’re taking a look back at 2020 and recognizing the top five most memorable construction systems projects of the year. It was a challenging and unforgettable year for many reasons, but these projects make us look forward to what’s to come in 2021. These projects were selected and recognized with a “Project of the Year” award for their unique aspects, application technique and sustainable construction methods.

    Here are the top five Construction Systems Projects of 2020:


    Freeze-dried Pet Protein Plant in Nebraska

    This facility specializing in the manufacturing of freeze-​dried protein for pet food used Ucrete DP System with Ucrete DP Topcoat to prevent bacteria growth, withstand harsh sanitization, add slip resistance, allow easy cleaning and remain watertight. MasterTop 1234​ was also installed in common areas to provide a seamless floor that was aesthetically pleasing, economical and slip resistant.


    YCI Methanol One in St. James, Louisiana

    Located in Louisiana, YCI Methanol One, is a state-of-the-art methanol plant. The facility utilizes a variety of products from Master Builders Solutions, from grout​ and concrete repair​ to coatings for applications such as compressors, pumps, foundations, wastewater treatment and a host of other areas. The Master Builders Solutions team also provided training and site support.


    Swaggart Ministries in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

    Built in 1984, Bluebonnet Towers is a 12-story exposed aggregate precast building that began experiencing extensive leaking. The project team examined the damage and found severe concrete deterioration.  Master Builders Solutions delivered a wall coatings system, including MasterProtect HB 400 and MasterProtect C 350​. The hydrophobic properties of the coating would repel water and dirt for long lasting appearance and reduce maintenance costs.


    Transit City Garage in Toronto, Canada

    Vaughan Metro Centre (VMC) is a growing are of Toronto attracting many residents and businesses. The owner, Smart Centres, envisioned incorporating aspects of their brand identity in the parking garage by using yellow tones throughout the structure. The project included the installation of approximately 800,000 sq. ft. of Master Builders Solutions waterproofing products​ and Watson Bowman Acme expansion joints.


    HUB Residential in Champaign, Illinois

    The Dean Campustown takes the college living experience to the next level. Conveniently located in the center of Campustown and near the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the 18-story student residence brings together spacious apartments with modern finishes, a range of luxury amenities, and various on-site retail options. The high-quality finishes extend to the exterior design. The apartment building exterior uses Channeled Adhesive CI Design over 94,000 sq. ft. and MaxGrip Veneer Mortar​ to adhere 6,000 sq. ft. of thin brick without the use of mechanical attachments. The fully integrated, innovative wall system is a single-source solution with continuous insulation, air/water-resistive barrier and drainage for optimum heat, air and moisture control.
