BIM-Enabled Tools and their Impact on Designing for High-Performance Building Solutions
The question “To BIM or not to BIM” is evidently clear. But what does this mean in the life of the architects and engineers working with material manufacturers? Sustainability and building codes help to establish motivation and BIM-enabled tools support the data which manufacturers can provide. Utilizing the tools and data takes a clear digital strategy and relevant data from the material manufacturer.
As part of our continuing education programs, we’ve developed a new AIA course called “High Performance Building Systems: Enhanced with Digital Tools.” The course discusses the importance of BIM-enabled solutions in the design of high-performance building envelopes. This course also provides participants with an understanding of why and how to establish best practices which allow BIM-enabled tools to assist in designing better systems for high-performance envelopes as well as for other types of projects.
The course learning objectives include:
- Analyze how the main components of building envelope assemblies for energy-efficient buildings impact the selection and specification of products
- Define key product sustainability attributes which contribute to meeting environmental regulations for building envelopes
- Understand the main drivers and strategies of digital content development as they impact sustainable design criteria, building efficiency analysis and selection of high-performance building materials
- Identify how BIM-enabled tools streamline project programming documentation by integrating product research, sustainable material selection, and life-safety risk mitigation
Master Builders Solutions is a Registered Provider with The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System. Credit earned on completion of this program will be reported to CES Records for AIA members. Certificates of Completion for non-AIA members are available on request.
